365 Days of Drabbles: Day One Hundred-Nineteen

For [livejournal.com profile] aldersprig: "You have a sci-fi Cinderella and I missed it? "

Helen slapped her indenture bangle against the shift scanner. It beeped once and she was once again a free woman, at least until she had to start her next shift in nine hours. One hour to grab a bite, shuck her other set of clothes in the sonic wash, then bunk in her cube to sleep.

That lasted until she reached the coffin hotel, and found all of the cubes ripped open, fittings gutted, while the attendant screamed in Congolese at the corp cops.

"Fuck," she said wearily. Then she dropped down onto a plastic bench and started to cry.

I'm lost. What's going on here?

Well, since the first couple of bits I wrote were at the climax of the story, i decided to shift things back all the way to the beginning. We're seeing Helen/Cinderella's life prior to her Fairy God AI showing up.

Tried to go back for earlier installments of this and they're not tagged yet.

EDIT: Found it - the other part's tagged "Space Cinderella"
