Once upon a time an American bomber gets lost trying to reach their target and flys over the Swiss border, where it's forced down by a pair of Messerschmidts (sp). When asked why they didn't fire and try to get back to base, the bomber pilot replied, "Sir, we'd never fire on the Red Cross!"
