Fic: Altered Trajectory (cont.)
Short one today.
They didn’t exactly zip away, the crowd on the street being what it was, but they moved on at a quick pace, Drisden maintaining a ground eating jog that cleared the way as would be obstacles found good reason to get out of the khaki colored giant’s path. Rufus kept right behind, occasionally checking over his shoulder for possible pursuit.
“How soon do you think they’re going to be on our tails, Ru?” Hazel asked, maintaining her grip around his waist.
“As soon as they get the bright idea to just bribe someone in the crowd to point out which way they went. Then bribe someone else to confirm that the first fellow wasn’t lying just to spite them,” he replied.
“Lovely,” she said. “And exactly how pissed is Mac at us about this turn of events?”
“Gnashing his fangs, judging from his replies to my report, but he didn’t try to countermand me, not that I’d bother to listen to him anyway. He’s going to head back to his fighter and tight beam a report back up to Captain Sharpfang.”
“And what’s our plan?”
“Talk to Drisden, try to convince him to sing our praises to his people. Beyond that I’m just going to have to play it by ear.”
Hazel snorted. “Just don’t let it get cut off.”
TBC
