Riddle me this, readers

Given that Commander Blake was perfectly willing to nuke a spaceport and its surrounding city just to kill one kid, can anyone come up with a plausable reason why she wouldn't/couldn't kill Mel and the rest of her crew after she hands over Rufus and Hazel?

Cuz I can't figure it out myself, and I'd rather not kill Mel and Rollie, given I want the climax to actually be upbeat.

Sure - Kill Her!

If you can't think of a reason, it makes for an awesome plot element that one of them knows something desperately needed (as long as you think of something later :D)

Hmm, that is difficult...

Let someone attack Leeza and them slip away?

Let the Galapados appear (but then Rufus and Hazel would be freed also)...

Or let them be confined (needs explanation) and afterwards escape.

Let the pirate crew get/find a super-weapon and/or threaten Leeza to kamikaze them if she would not release Melika and Rolas...

I hope there is something you can use in there...
