I think part of my problem is that I am used to reading science fiction books by people who are either dead or have stopped writing, since I tend to browse my Dad's shelves for everything.

That and all the living authors I read, my friends read, except for Bujold, and so the friend who works in a bookstore usually tells me when the books I am waiting for are in store.
