I'm sad that it happened, but on the other hand, it was a good day.

I know, I know. I just don't need to wake up to shocks like that. I know how hard it is to lose a parent, and I'm not a depressive like Davan.

Yeah, it suxx, but:

1: They had one last day together. And a helluva day it was. May the Gods be merciful enough to grant me that day before I go.

2: She's spared the agony of watching Fred descend into Alzheimers.

3: She went quietly, in her sleep. Not the worst way to go.

Yes, Davan, Fred, Dahlia, Monette, and the rest now have to cope with the loss. And I, for one, will be waiting to see how they do.

ANd, I'm sure, crying along with the rest of the readers.

I know, I know. It just hit like a ton of bricks. Faye, as Eric Burns said in Websnark collumn, was a saint. Saints don't last long in Randy's universe. And this is going to, once again, utterly destroy any chance of happiness for Davan.

Argh. Fuck. I'm better now but I'm still upset, if that makes any sense. It hit home hard for me.

Unless it happens at the end of a long and painful illness death is always like that. Heck even at the end of an illness it tend to be a sudden moment of all the stars falling in.

Yeah, it was a bit of a shock. But the fact that you cared...it's what you keep reading for, right?

GREAT HONKING SPOILERS

It was surprisingly similar to a recentish storyline in GASOLINE ALLEY:

spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler

Elderly couple, one partner has information that they want to impart to the other, communication is delayed because of other factors and you know the rest. A difference is that wossname on GA managed to stretch the story out to approximately a zillion times its natural length.
