Short review: Chobits - Discs 3 & 4 (spoilers)
"It's like a Harem Show, only none of the women are actually attracted to Hideki."
And lo, Goth Chii makes her first appearance. The mystery of Chii's background just gets more mysterious, what with Gigeresque pics of Chii popping up on the net, what appears to be her old personality chatting with her in private, and that damned creepy children's book making a repeat appearance.
Anyway, the meta-plot still plods along, wrapped in the domestic drama that is our boy Hideki. We get the envitable Beach Episode, a little more background on Creepy Hacker Boy (poor kid), and a completely out of the blue teacher-student romance.
Actaully I have to applaud that last one. It's a credit to the series creators that they're willing to go beyond the mere titillation factor of the persacomms and aknowledge that yes, having a sexy "fully functional" computer around the house just might interfere with normal husband-wife relations. Especially given the stereotypically screwed-up sexuality of Japanese men. In contrast Hideki's porn collection appears a fairly harmless pastime.
If I have a beef with the series, Hideki's bumbling with electronics is getting old very fast. I'm not sure why the show feels the need to go off on long explanations about e-mail, online games and the like, considering that the target audience about the show already knows about all that stuff, and it just makes Hideki look dim.
