"Rolas, this is a bad idea," Melanie said nervously.
"It's Salli's planet," he told her. "I'm not letting some ass on the Council of Countesses take it from her."
"Did you have to challenge Countess Engineminder to a duel over it?"
"I know how to use a sword. If I win, Salli's claim cannot be disputed."
"She practices her art! When was the last time you picked up a sword since university?"
"I've a longer reach and I'm stronger than her."
Melanie whispered fiercely, "If I have to kidnap you again to save your stupid life, I will do it!"
