Ugh

Mom had a panic attack while she was out getting her nails done yesterday. I ended up leaving work at about one and driving her home. For a while she was okay, but around 5 or so she started shaking and crying again, so I called my sister to come over and be with her overnight. I didn't get home until after 8 pm.

I've never seen Mom so upset before. She's been on Paxil for three days, but it hasn't had time to really kick in yet, and in the meantime she's in *horrible* shape. She's so completely different from the mother I know that it's frightening. I'm hoping the Paxil does it's job, otherwise I'm not sure what to do for her.

Sorry to hear it, chum. It *is* frightening when you have to step in and *be* the parent. Just be your supportive self and reassure her that things will eventually be okay. Her entire world has collapsed and her panic and fear is understandable.

Possible also that she needs different meds. I would suggest contacting her doctor. S/he may want to add in a different anti-anxiety med. That can make a world of difference.

Good luck, prayers sent, and keep us posted.

Luckily her doctor got back to her today. He's taking her off the Paxil and putting her on Xanax, since he thinks the Paxil was actaully *causing* the panic attacks. Fortunately until that kicks in, Mom is going to be staying with my sister until Thanksgiving (which if all goes well she, Rae, and my other sister Robin will be doing together).
