More of this guy.

* * *

“Collins, you have something for me?”

“Yes, sir. Michael Phillips, a junior chemist in our biological research division. He’s been making inquiries about some deliveries to the Special Projects section.”

“Has he made any connections yet, or contacted someone who might?”

“I don’t believe so, sir. I judge that he’s ignorant of the project’s true purpose, but I wanted to bring it to your attention before that occurred.”

“Excellent work, as always, Collins.” He paused, templing his fingers thoughtfully. “I believe we’ll have to take care of Mister Phillips.”

“They said what?”

“Just like I told you. My supervisor called me into the office and said I was being transferred. I’m getting thirty days paid leave and then I’m supposed to move down to Sao Paulo in Brazil to head the plant categorization and discovery office. Oh, and I’m getting a 15% pay raise, backdated to the start of the year.”

“Why would they do that?”

“I’m not sure. He just said the company takes care of their own.”

If only real life evil bastards were so forward thinking.

Assuming that an "accident" isn't supposed to happen to Mr. Phillips once he arrives in the conveniently-remote locale of Brazil.

"Accidents get our Safety Office involved, and attract the wrong sort attention. We prefer to keep difficult people happy and distracted, until our current project's completion."

I've got another piece bouncing in my head where EB has a "chat" with the town's local Batman figure, letting them know he doesn't appreciate having five of his guards put into the hospital.

This guy is sounding like the type of villain who on discovery people might mistake for a hero. Or be recognized as a villain but present the problem of: how to we neutralize him without making things even worse?!

Darn Xanatoses. :}

Xanatos, or the few good depictions of what Lex Luthor would really be like. Villains With Good Publicity.

Of course, discussing things with the Goddam Batman doesn't do much more than stall the inevitable confrontation.
