“Only the Russians would be crazy enough to nuke their own country,” the general said, watching the bomber's progress on the monitors.
“Sir, we should really discuss the Desert Rock tests sometime,” his adviser said.
They watched as the aging Tupolev bomber flew over the water, releasing an old school gravity bomb. It dropped down towards the water...
...to be grabbed by a tentacle.
“Lieutenant, I'm a reasonable man. So I know I didn't just see... Oh god...”
They watched as the tentacle lobbed the bomb skyward, just before the image disappeared in a flash of light.
