Airwolf, Mate
Aug. 20th, 2006 08:45 pmWhen I get bored, rather than come up with story concepts that might y'know, sell, I come up with various odd angles on my latest obsession. Lately it's been translating TV series in Australianese. [1] ForEx: Airwolf. Same setup as before, except that the series starts in 1996 (still filmed in 1980's though). String is a bitter ex-vet, except his brother dissappeared under Mysterious Circumstances (tm) working for Archangel. Archangel is a bit of an Aussie nationalist, trying to prepare the nation for the handover of Hong Kong to China in a year, forcing Australia to become a Pacific superpower to counterweight the PRC (don't ask me why the USA isn't involved). Santini stays the same, except for his accent and the paint job on his chopper. The only other addition is Racheal, Dom's Koori chopper mechanic, who takes over Caitlin's tom boy role, only being less irritating about it. She also has a brother who for some reason is deeply involved in Aborigine protests against the government, agitating for an Aborigine 'homeland' carved out of the interior.[2]
Why do I come up with stuff like this?
[1] Which double-hilarious since my sum total knowledge of Down Under (tm) is limited to conversations with Peta and my extensive viewing of the Mad Max series and The Dish.
[2] A plot point borrowed from SJGame's "Road Atlas and Survival Guide: Australia" supplement.
