Progress Report: The Ship
Jun. 6th, 2008 08:17 pmRecord daily word count for this project so far! Go me. Though admittedly it's only a bit over half of what I did yesterday when I was working on complete fluff.
I think part of the problem is that I don't know these characters very well. I can pop off horribly angtsy with Marty because I can get inside his head. Right now I've got a vague idea of what drives Paul (guilt from killing his shipmates, and a sense of curiosity), but trying to divine Quell's motivations is harder. This story, more than most of mine, is really driven by the plot and the MacGuffin rather than the characters, which is good in one sense (in that it actually has a plot), but not so much in the fact that these new people aren't really ready to tell me their opinions on what they should be doing, so I'm the one that has to come up with their actions.
Which makes me sound utterly insane.
Or it just means I'm a writer.
