Men walked upon the surface of another world for the first time. And event that has not been repeated since 1972.

Today, Buzz Aldrin is shilling his biography, doing voices on The Simpsons, and letting his face be plastered on the front of a mediocre video game (which I played endlessly when I had a computer that could run it)

Armstrong, perhaps more wisely, says nothing at all if he can help it. What does he have to prove to anyone? What more could he do?

Alan Bean, the fourth man to walk on the moon, paints. Perhaps he's chosen the wisest path, to create beautiful things from his experiences there.

This all perhaps isn't fair to NASA. To say "We haven't done anything" since walking on the Moon ignores little things like Viking, Spirit and Opportunity, Voyager, Galileo, the Hubble telescope, and more.

But the dream... the dream was that one of us ordinary people, not an Armstrong or an Aldrin or even a Bean, might go there too. Maybe even just plop down a large deposit with Pan American and fly there for a vacation.

Hasn't happened yet.

Might not happen for a long time. Certainly not before I'm dead and dust.

[livejournal.com profile] chaypeta's request was Terinu and Matt go camping on the beach near Aunt Vonnie's house at her suggestion.

Terinu isn't good at instructions )
