Story Musings
Jun. 7th, 2010 12:01 pmAltered Trajectory: Currently on hiatus while I try and plot where it needs to go next. Have the climax in my head, it's the messy bit before hand I'm not looking forward to.
The Ship: Moribund
Assasinating the Dead: Moribund, with an extra helping of "I should have outlined this better before I started it."
Other Ideas:
Been contemplating a fun bit of smut based on the Nazi Vixens pic
chaypeta did for me. Just having a hard time trying to get into the mode of a horny, furry version of "Hogan's Heroes" while ignoring the whole organized genocide thing lurking in the background. I'm probably going to end up trying shoehorn it into Vulpine Prime's distant past in the canon Terinu universe. Just make everyone the incredibly similar looking ancestors of the present day cast, with Rufus and Rolas brave airship pilots shot down over enemy territory controlled by a Vulpine nation that rejects the Holy Den Mother's religion in favor of rampant and uncontrolled industrialization (basically a softer version of the Vulpine Imperium background that got rightously crushed before it could do any real damage). The way I figure it it's unlikely that the whole of Vulpine could be a monoculture prior to the Varn showing up, and there would have to be a reason for Count Bom Brushtail having an armed militia guarding the observatory in Flyboys anyway.
I've also been thinking about doing a script format Batman fanfic, set in the 1940's as well. The stimulus for this is memories of a film presentation of The Battle of Britain back in college, done in the mode of an old-fashioned 1940's Saturday matinee, complete with pre-film shorts. One of the shorts was a prototype of a classic 50's sitcom, with a wahcky husband and wife living in the suburbs. The other was the first episode of the infamous Batman movie serial, which begins with a pan over an emptybacklot neighborhood, which the narrator proudly tell the audience was Gotham's Little Japan until all inhabitants were safely removed to concentration relocation camps when the war started.
The booing was pretty loud in the auditorium during the whole thing.
Anyway, a couple of years ago I started contemplating how to improve on the concept (Japanese spies on the East Coast) while diluting the frankly racist aspects. The basic concept would be to have Batman team up with a Japanese-American intelligence office, who was assigned to try an infiltrate the spy gang, while they both try and figure out why the spies are stealing key technologies from Wayne Enterprises. Not sure why but the urge to write the story down is growing stronger, possibly in script format to mimic the old serial structure rather than a prose story. We'll see how it goes.
Key lines from the latter:
(After Batman returns to the Batcave after yet another dramatic entrance via smashed skylight)
Alfred (picking bits of glass from the costume): "I don't mean to criticize Master Wayne, but would make my job much easier if you could just come in through the back door.

(Bats and the agent first meet while he's in costume)
"A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Wayne."
"I'm afraid you have the wrong man."
"Bruce Wayne, heir to Thomas and Martha Wayne, both brutally gunned down in front of their eight-year old child's eyes. He was raised by their family friend Dr. Leslie Thompkins and their loyal unto death retainer Alfred Pennyworth. Son grows up to be an examplary student and athelete, getting degrees in engineering and chemistry from MIT before dissapearing at age 23. Returns to Gotham City after seven years following wild rumors of him tramping in the Orient and takes back control of company. Or at least technically he does, since he seems to leave actual day-to-day operations with a negro by the name of Lucius Fox."
"A negro with a Harvard Business degree."
"Be that as it may. Bruce gains a repuation as a ner-do-well playboy, much to the disgust of the people who had admired the bright but troubled orphan when he was a child. Six months after his return the Batman first appears, possessing extraodinary martial arts skills and very expensive crimefighting equipment."
"What's your point?"
"Let's be honest Mr. Wayne, or Batman if you prefer. You do all this and you expect not to be noticed?"

"I love my country, Mr. Wayne. I just have some real problems with some of the people running it."
