So, remember my car that died on Friday? Had it towed to the shop, whereapon it sat over the weekend. Monday Steve gave me a ride to our company's year-end summing up/movie party, which this year was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. In between the end of the meeting and the start of the movie, I called the shop, and found out that the problem was a dead fuel pump. Cost to replace: US$1,267.

Ow.

Note that just the day before we'd sent our check to the adoption agency along with our paperwork, to the tune of $3,000. NOT paying for the repairs wasn't an option. We can't afford to add a 2nd car payment to our debt load right now. So the only viable solution was to take it out of our home equity account, and hopefully be able to pay it down before we get our refferal for China Girl.

Needless to say, I didn't enjoy the movie as much as I could, even though it did rock.

So I go over to my Mom's for dinner to spend time with her and Aunt Delores. I mention my car trouble to her, telling her it's going to inconvient but survivable for us. So she heads back into her office, and writes up a check for a $1,000 to cover most of the expense.

I love my mom... (cries)

That's what moms are for! Seeing the needs of their little chickens and putting the bandaids on with love!
