I use PhotoShop for work a fair bit. Not a power user by any means, but competent at the basics. I'm not sure of the differences between Photoshop and Photoshop LE, but here are a couple of things to look for.
1. Instead of just File | Save, see if there is a File | Save for Web option. That converts to .gif and is what I mostly use for web display for icons and such.
2. If that isn't available, what is probably going on is that you have created layers in the image and PS needs to merge those layers for most save formats. So, if you want to edit the icon again, save as .PSD and then also flatten the layers so that you can save as eg JPG. (Layer | Flatten Image in the full PS.)
Okay, you've provided me with the best amusement of the day so far. Of course, the day started with a migraine, so my standards may be set low (g).
I checked the link and went to a post something like (iirc) "FANDOM ICONS," thinking there would be a list there of typical phrases, and was blown into a firestorm of gamma ray particles emanating through the screen at the various wankers. Thankfully, my computer has a gamma ray filter already, so no battle damage here.
The topic was an icon of a woman, probably my age, in which she is showing cleavage, as in *lots of.* Hardly p8rnographic or even distasteful, just, well, personal. And someone else wrote an attack on her for having her "droopy, old" b**bs hanging down in an icon, upon which she is congratulated for having "perky, young" b**bs, and the fun continued from there.
Amazing how funny a trollish interchange can be when *you're* not the target!
Oh my yes. FW is worth hours of amusement, assuming you aren't foolish enough to wade in (fortunately I've never been given an invite to JournalFen, so I couldn't participate except anonmously anyway).

Also, glad you got it solved.

Date: 2006-09-22 07:01 pm (UTC)Well, I shall have to try PNGs again then, because I'm certain I've had trouble with them in the past.
