Dear Home Depot,

When measuring out my floors and writing up the cost estimate, you might want to tell the installation company that A) Pullman kitchens are small, and B) People who collect books tend to have a lot of bookshelves.

No love,
Royce

I do feel rather sorry for the poor guy that showed up at our door this morning. They sent one guy to do 600 ft. of laminate, and of course my hasty call to HD last night after getting back from the emergency room didn't get to him on time, so he was unpleasantly surprised to find out he'd have to lift up the tile and pull the tack boards away from the wall himself. Never mind that the furniture in our living room (modular couch, entertainment center, two bookshelves and a fish tank, and dining room (dining room table, two large sets of drawers) was "excessive". Admittedly he had a point, it would take some manuvering to lay flooring around all that, but nobody had told us anything about "Excessive furniture" when we had the contract written up.

In the end, the killer was the kitchen. Basically the fridge was too big for him to pull out by himself, so he was rather apologetic when he told us he'd have to get his company to send a two man crew in to finish the job. Why they didn't send one in the first place I've got no idea. So the only thing that he managed to finish was the second floor landing, but if that's any indication, the house is going to look spectacular when it's all done.

Oh, yeah, that tile in the kitchen that I maimed myself over? "I could have just set the laminate right over it."
