I'm getting desperate enough that I actually tried to apply for a position at the MVA's emissions testing facility. Only problem was when I got there, I was informed that I had to know how to drive a stick shift.

Anybody in the the Columbia MD area willing to give me lessons? o_o

Go to a used car lot on a slow day and offer them $20 to show you the basics. It's really a lot easier than you probably think. The main thing is getting the feel for the clutch. You have to disengage the gears while shifting, then let them re-engage gently so they mesh right away instead of clanging against each other. If you have half an ear for rhythm and sound you will be a natural. All you need is the general idea and then practice.

yeah it took me all of 2 hours to learn to drive a manual transmission. I even took my drivers test in an old ford truck with "3 in the tree" Its not so hard and you won't be going far. Hell I doubt you will ever get out of first.
