Bad News/Good News

jeriendhalSo I get home, check the answering machine and find a message from my sister telling me Mom was in the hospital with chest pains, but "Not to worry" because apparently she was just having trouble breathing because of renovations being done at the building where she does volunteer work. I spoke to Mom on the phone later that evening and she seemed cheery enough, but they were going to hold her overnight to finish some tests.
And I officially felt like a guilty little sh*t for not calling her at all last week.
On the plus side, Peta got the package that I had sent her. Last July at Otakon I made a project of wandering through the Artists Alley and gathering up as many signatures from webcomic artists as I could find (Piro, Mookie, Micheal Poe, Jon Kilgannon among them, along with seven or eight others), all addressed to Peta. I sent the Otakon program book with the signatures, along with a copy of David Macaulay's Unbuilding autographed to her and a can of Old Bay (because hey, I wanted to prove I was from Maryland) to her house. She got it today (afternoon her time, early morning for me) and was literally squeeing over Google Chat. Apparently she thinks her local comic book shop is going to try and buy it off her when she shows it off, but she promises she'll hang onto it. :)
Tonight: My first novel writing class. I'm wondering what it'll be like. It lasts until 9:30 pm, so I'm hoping it'll be interesting so I can stay awake through it. :)
