Half-Life 2, observations (mild spoilers)

Not done with the game yet, just making commentary.

Point Insertion: Dude, wait... what? Let's see, everyone is blue uniforms, obquitous cameras and mooks with shock sticks, guy on a MegaPixelTron TV giving speeches (voiced by Robert Culp!) Yep, standard issue Dystopian Future.

Red Letter Day: There is something very sick and wrong about a scientist making a pet out of a creature that eats peoples brains and turns them into zombies with bad hats!

Route Kanal: Worst Level Pun Ever. And would it kill the designers to give poor Gordo a briefing on why the Vortigaunts are nice now?

Water Hazard: Cause we'll have FUN FUN FUN /'til the toxic waste eats all our skin awaaaaaay!

Black Mesa East: So you guys have built (semi) working teleporters, a tractor beam, a combat robot that thinks it's a dog, and you need me to lead the resistance?

"We Don't Go to Ravenholm": I can see why. But the idea of using headcrabs as terror weapons is certainly effective. The Half-Life designers are very good at designing relatively low level threats that immediately draw your fire because they're LEAPING AT MY FREAKING FACE!

Highway 17: It's as pretty as Myst/Riven, especially the railway bridge, but with the occasional machine gun battle.

Sandtraps: God I hate Ant Lions.

Nova Prospekt: God I love Ant Lions.

Entanglements: Hate, hate, hated That Fight in the prison. Only time I've had to use God Mode in the game to get through something. Where are my sweet Ant Lion minions when I need them?

It was so disconcerting, not just from the hallucinogenic imagery but the fact that the G-Man seemed to act appreciative of Gordon's efforts in the last game. "No one deserves a rest more than you, Mr. Freeman."

BTW Was that book the one you wanted?

Haha, yeah it was. I now have all the Halo books so far. :P
