My 40th birthday comes a year early
Mar. 23rd, 2008 07:26 pmApparently this was the weekend for drama. Yesterday
moonshadowed's mom and aunt were t-boned while driving across an intersection. Her mom got away with a mass of bruises from the seat belt, her aunt, who was driving, was pinned in the car and had to be cut out. X-rays showed her femur had been shoved into her hip, so she was medivaced to a hospital in Hershey for a closer examination. There they figured out she'd also broken a few ribs. Right now she's in traction with a pin in her leg and they're trying to decide whether to attempt a repair or replace her whole hip.
Today Tracy, Thomas and I went to my mom's for a birthday lunch, which was middlin' successful. Tom was a little bear and we had to spend much of the time trying to keep him from playing with Grandma's toilet. Fortunately for my sanity Tracy managed to take him aside and calm him down while I talked to mom. For some ungodly reason we discussed funerals a lot, don't ask me why. I'm just hoping I got the longevity of my dad's side of the family in my genetics. Most of the lived to their late 80's or early nineties. With any luck, given continuing medical advances, my 'Mid-life' will come when I'm fifty, not forty.
