Random Observations:

1. God, Bruce Boxleitner looks like he's sixteen in the Real World segments.

1a. Jeff Bridges as CLU has the girliest scream just before his tank crashes.

2. It looks much better letterboxed. I never realized how much of the visuals I was missing in the pan & scan VHS tapes.

3. I never realized that they filmed the digitizing lab and Big Door segments actually in the Lawrence Livermore Labs. Which apparently back then had a honking big multi-laser system named (without apparent irony) SHIVA.

4. The commentary track is worth a listen. It tends to bounce between dry technical stuff on the effects, to the writer cheerfully admitting to some of the cheese factor (like ENCOM Lab's non-amazement at having developed digitizing tech). From the sounds of things, they're still pretty amazed that they managed to pull off everything they did with the technology they had. To put things in perspective, TRON had more effects shots than Star Wars Ep's IV - VI combined, and this was back in 1982.

5. The movie is still a load of fun these days, especially given the persepctive it gives on the technology we had back then and what's availible today.

I watched a two-disc eidtion that Disney put out in 2003. No new material added to the movie, but lots of extras and the negative was restored.

Loved the deleted scene(s)

When I saw the clip that you had posted I pulled the same 2 disk set off the shelf and watched it.

The ones in Yori's apartment were sort of cool. Looked a little wierd in the long shot just after Yori "changed clothes", but otherwise quite fun.

Also, remember that Bruce isn't the only one from Tron to get to Babylon 5, Peter Jurasik (Crom - Londo) was also there...

The large computer room that Flynn and Lora run through looks like the computer room that my Dad worked in about 25 years ago including the 9-track tape drives and the disk drives that were almost the side of a washing machine.

Also, honestly the more I'm out in the industry the more problem I have with the ending. Kevin Flynn is *not* executive material. Put him back to what he was doing and promote Alan. While Kevin Flynn may be a better programmer, he isn't appropriate for upper management.

Also, can anyone come up with a computer company that had the situation that Dr. Walter Gibbs (the founder and Dumont's human) had of continuing to work for the company at a lower level rather than running it?
