Starship Sierra Madre: Characters

Paul Chen Lao - Former Lieutenant in the League of Worlds Defense Force. Drunk and on the down and outs when we meet him, having been dishonorably discharged for the loss of his ship. Chinese ancestry. A navigator for notable skill, except for one little incident…

Quell Mirap - Paul’s former CO. A Wazaga (Arabic for “Lizard”) captain, which is a rarity even in the (theoretically) egalitarian LWDF. He kept his career while Paul lost his, which in Quell’s estimation mean he owes the human a blood debt. Looks like a bit like an anthropomorphic otter, with dark greenish-blue scales instead of fur.

Madame Karim Khoury - A Terran businesswoman, or Earth royalty for all intents and purposes. She’s elderly but healthy, acting as the expedition’s patron and providing Paul and Quell their ship.

Ship’s Cat aka “SC” - A Bioroid constructed to resemble an anthropomorphic snow leopard. Though Bioroids are usually made simply to be expensive (and in many places illegal) toys, this one has seen hard use. She looks old, which is unusual, walks with a pronounced limp and barely speaks above a rough whisper. She’s a savant when it comes to starship engineering though.

Dr. Henri Peterson - A Earth based scholar and researcher of ancient Confederation starships. He’s coming along in order to try and reactivate the ship, assuming they find it.

Major Nim - Leader of the ship’s security force. A no-nonsense ex-Marine.

At least Paul is pretty sure about the “ex”

Alas, no. If it works out, this will be a novel I'll be shopping around to publishers, so I wouldn't want to post it in the open before it goes to press.
