AKiKiF: Sci-Fi con murder mystery
Sep. 4th, 2008 02:50 pmTrying to find the title of mystery novel set at a science fiction convention. And no, it isn't Bimbos of the Death Sun. I remember reading it in high school, after checking it out from my school library, but for the life of me I can't remember the title (I want to call it "Death Con" but I don't know that's right), author or plot, just random details.
1) Protagonist was an adult female, IIRC the mother of her geeky child who was attending the con as a chaperone I think. Anyway I'm fairly certain she wasn't a fen.
2) At one point in the book she gets the phone number an antagonist was dialing by catching the different beeps the pay phone (remember those?) made while he was dialing.
3) At another point the villian or a secondary villian tries to kidnap a female con-goer dressed as Princess Leia. As he's dressed as Darth Vader, everyone assumes it's an act and doens't call security.
Other than that I can't remember a darned thing about it, except I think I enjoyed it and could never find it again. Anyone recognize it?

Date: 2008-09-05 12:17 am (UTC)The only mystery set at a con besides Bimbos that I've read was written by Buck and/or Juanita Coulson, and I don't remember the title or any of the scenes you describe. In fact I think the protagonist, or at least first-person POV, was a P.I.
