So, in an effort to actually get ourselves to exercise (though [livejournal.com profile] moonshadowed was doing quite well with a walking DVD)we got ourselves a Wii Fit. So far it's pretty fun.

Pros:

Variety: There's a lot of exercises to do, none of which require anything beyond the Wii Fit balance board and Wiimote (which is cleverly used as a pedometer for the jogging course.)

Tracking: If you like, the balance board will measure your weight and balance daily, calculating your BMI and graphing your progress.

Cons:

Cleaning: To get a proper safe stance on the thing, you have to be barefoot. After three days use ours is already stained. A protective rubber cover like they eventually packed with Wiimotes is a must.

Exercise Routines (or lack thereof): While you do get a virtual personal trainer to lead you through individual routines, they only lead you through one exercise at a time, forcing you to stop and switch to a new one. Also, you don't get a warmup routine, though every exercise recommends you start with one. What Wii Fit needs is what we had for the exercise program we bought for the PS2, the ability to use individual exercise, but also be able to run through them in a series, with some randomness thrown in to avoid boredom.
