So apparently the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender was cast by the same idiot who did the Sci-Fi Channel's adaptation of Earthsea

I wasn't exactly looking forward to this anyway, since in general live action versions of cartoons I like usually equal "sucks". Add in M. Night Sha-na-na, who isn't exactly known for loving homages to kung-fu movies, as the director, and I was doubly put off.

This casting though, is frigging ridiculous. Okay, I know that most of the actors doing the voices of the main cast were white (Zuko and Uncle Iroh excepted), but their characters definitely weren't. Would it have been that hard to find actors for at Katara and Sokka that at least had skin that didn't look like the side of a milk truck?

jvowles, please say something to point out my fannish grumpiness is overblown.

Yeah, I heard about this from here: http://alexds1.deviantart.com/journal/21911521/ and my response was "whut?!" and then lol at the artist's personal cast listing. But, you know if they played randomly cast Asians into roles with lots o' white people that would annoy me as well. Because it would be jarring. I too thought of the Earthsea Sci-fi Channel abomination when I saw the cast as well (although thankfully I've not seen the show). I personally don't think it matters that the voice casting was white because, well, they're voices, and a lot of Asian Americans sound like "white people" anyway. Unless they were going to be casting FOBs. XD So anyone arguing that point seriously doesn't really have a valid argument, IMO.

My fear is that all the rest or most of the remaining secondary cast will be minority and the main cast won't because we can't have minorities as heroes can we? >=P

I mean those actors...they look nothing like the cartoon version next to them, which is oh so clearly Asian. Grrr, as hapa kid, I am irked, I say!
