Since it won't load, shall I assume he complained about people scanning his work and giving it away free to the interwebs without permission?

Because honestly, I don't blame him if he did -- posting comic books online should be the choice of the publisher (or whoever else holds the rights). It's one thing to be judicious about it and post a panel just for review purposes, and another entirely to scan and republish something you don't own.
