Fic: Arc, Part 23
Sep. 9th, 2009 09:29 pmJust a shorty today.
“He lied,” Whitepelt said. “All the vulpine that listened to Marturari’s speech who were arrested have been detained for questioning prior to euthanasia.”
“Euthanasia? They can’t!”
“They’re our Wise Masters, they can do anything they want.” She gestured to the gun still in Black D2’s hand. “Or are you disagreeing with them?”
“I just want Red back,” he said. “That’s all we want, for them to give our mates back to us. They have to understand that.”
Marty glided up in his float chair from his hiding place. “What you are asking for the Varn will never give to you. If you want your mate, if you want your family, if you want to right to control your own destiny, then you are going to have to take it from them.”
“How!” Black D2 demanded.
“Follow me,” Marty said. He raised his voice and called out to the remaining vulpine still holding their positions in the dormitory. “All of you, follow me! Whitepelt shall give the ones who lead weapons. Do not use them until I or Whitepelt give permission.”
“They don’t know how to use the weapons,” Whitepelt whispered urgently, as the first of rebelling vulpine came up to grab their rifles.
“Neither did you,” he countered.
“I got lucky,” she hissed. “If you can count splattering four people lucky!”
“It’s all right. I’m just giving them the confidence to move forward,” Marty said.
She thought about that a moment, as they began to move down the hallway, the rest of the dorm’s inhabitants trailing behind them. “You took out the charge packs, didn’t you?”
“Precisely.”
