As opposed to basically mixing a kit together or doing Boil in a Bag.

Sunday for whatever reason I got it into my head to do a stew, after finding a deal on stew meat at the BJ's. Unfortuantely when I hit the Safeway I found they don't carry the little kits of dehydrated veggies that I usually use to do stew in our crock pot. This called for drastic measures, ie: I'd have to actually engage in actual chef-like activities. So armed with a fresh veggies, I put everything together yesterday morning to cook during the day. Tracy discovered she had the day off, after forgetting she'd scehduled it, so she made bread in our bread maker during the afternoon. The result was stew the way I like it, brown, meaty and thick enough that you could use your spoon for a flagpole. Very nice for a cold rainy evening.

Royce's Not-Bad-For-a-Throwtogether Beef Stew

Mix the following together in a large crock pot.

2 lbs. cubed roast beef
8 cups water
4 chopped celery stalks
5 chopped carrots
1 cup chopped mushrooms
1 large onion (chopped, big surprise)
1 package McCormick Beef Stew Seasoning

Cook on low heat in the crock pot for 8 to 10 hours. During the final half-hour drop in 1 or 2 cubed potatoes, and mix in a cup or so of flour or cornstarch to thicken the mixture. Serve with fresh bread.
