Afterall, how many wealthy Shakespearian actors have you heard of? And the get the womens roles won't she have to pretend to be a boy pretending to be a girl? (I seem to have heard the stage world no longer requires this, but I haven't been in theatre since high school.)
Then again it could have been an interest in playing the viola. (Hey, I played the violin in middle school, so I get to pick a side in the pick on an instrument thing.)
