Drabble: Working Definitions (Vorkosiverse/Terinu)

Terinu realized coming to Beta Colony's famous Orb was a mistake the third time that Look came over Joleen's face, her eyes crossing as she read through the Orb's Consent & Preferences contract. Reading through their copies beside her in the waiting lounge, Gwen had spent most of her time blushing and giggling, while Matt gamely went through the check boxes, his face gradually growing deeper and deeper shades of red. It hadn't helped in the latter's case that he'd had to read everything out loud on Terinu's form for the ferin's benefit.

"Matthew," she started to ask. "What does this mean...?" She pointed to her form.

Matt leaned over, read the question, and then asked, "You really don't know?"

"I thought it was something you used in the kitchen!"

Gwen looked herself and snorted back another giggle. "Depends on what you're trying to cook up..."

I'm thinking, if he did, he went through his mother on that one. Because, really, buying your inlaws a sex vacation, while on Beta I'm sure is a nice gesture, on Barryrar* I feel like would be... very strange.

*despite reading that word a million times, I have no idea how to spell it.

Terinu knows what they're talking about and when he gets Matt drunk enough he'll even demonstrate.

Barrayar [g]. I always want to leave out that middle A for some reason.

And, yeah, one would hope that he went through Cordelia for it. But I kind of hope he did -- and, man, somebody ought to write that up as fanfic (not me -- I have my own novel to finish, and I don't play well in other people's sandboxes, anyway).
