And as I hit the halfway mark on Nano, where I should have 25k words written for Triumvirate, I've actually got something like 27.5k (over 28k once I hit my Minimum Daily Total tonight). Yays.

And meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] chaypeta the Writing Machine has over 38k written.

In celebration (and despite there being no sex (or even romance) at all in the story) I give you some quotes on writing smut from How Not to Write a Novel

"Giving a reader a sex scene that is only half right is like giving her half of a kitten. It is not half as cute as a whole kitten; it is a bloody, godawful mess."

"Scenes where the bad guy is given a creepy fetish in order to establish his depravity are becoming less and less of a good idea. In a time when fetishes are becoming a must-have for the really hip, urban professional, you are likely to be stepping on the toes of many readers by using Nefaro's bondage thing as a shorthand for Evil."

Also, for writers who wonder if they're really any good, you can least look at your stuff and say At least I'm not Amanda McKittrick Ros

Congrats on hitting the halfway point in NaNoWriMo!

And yes on the badly-done sex scenes. Urrgh, if you read any online furry fiction you'll sooner or later have youir own stock of horror stories in that/i> regard.

I am inescapably reminded of the kitten tree.

Thanks. Sturgeon's Law is always in effect. That's more or less why I avoid 90% of all fanfiction, furry porn or not.

Just be very happy you've never read my Prisoners of War serial. It's Furry BDSM pseudo-Nazi smut with alternate-alternate-universe (no, that's not a typo) versions of [livejournal.com profile] chaypeta's Melika and Rufus, with a couple of my OC's tossed in for good measure.

Thanks. I'd managed to put that particular novel's imagery out of my mind...

Don't run your own stuff down! Rest assured, complete strangers on the Internet will be only too happy to do that for you.

BTW, if you want to see something awful fiction-wise, you can take a peek at what I did wirth that fursuit horror idea on my LJ. It's the most recent entry.

Snork. Nah, I post my stuff on DA. The only thing that gets noticed there is visual artwork. POW is okay I suppose, but I ended up writing a sequel work just because I felt so bad about what happened to Rolas that I wanted to give him a happier ending.

Congratulations for hitting the half way mark and having more than the necessary word count :)

This is OT but I've been looking at my D&D stuff lately and it made me wonder: how far could pain and BDSM fetishes be taken with access to magic that can heal even the most life-threatening injuries in instants?

You have to wonder (but not too much). I know on the tv tropes page for Erfworld it mentions the potential, given that A) There's at least one canon pairing involved in a D/S relationship, B) being based on turn based strategy games, subordinate "units" have to do whatever their commanders order, and C) Units heal all damage at the end of the day/turn.

My Tez and Maria stories also take at least minor advantage, though not for sexual purposes, of healing potions to heal up damage from abuse (Maria because she was forced to wear chains for much of her childhood, Tez because of a whipping he received from her while she was stuck in an atavistic state). That face that they are involved in a (convoluted but consensual) M/S relationship confuses the issue a bit. I think Tez would be disgusted if anyone suggested using healing potions for the purposes you're suggesting (that don't work that fast anyway).

Oh, and here's illo that [livejournal.com profile] chaypeta did that inspired the story. So it's her fault anyway. ;p
