I do not like April Fool's pranks that make people look stupid. I do like the spoof news announcements that some companies obviously go to great lengths to create.
It depends on the execution. I see some done really well, and some that are just obvious and stupid... Thus, there is the "opportunity for side-splitting hilarity". But some do not answer opportunity's knocks.
