Thirty Days of Drabbles - Day Twenty-Four

For chaypeta 's prompt of "An aurora borealis display has an unexpected effect on one of Tez's schemes. "

"Tez, I'm going to kill you," Maria said frostily, through clenched teeth.

"Stay quiet and make like you're a religious figure. Do you want them to gut you?" Beside him, Maria smiled beatifically, the wide arms of her heavy white robe hanging like golden wings as the waves of light from the aurora reflected off them.

"I thought we were going to negotiate a trade agreement with them?"

"That was before that blasted aurora started up and they decided we were the cause. Now do you want to be an avatar or a sacrifice?" Tez stepped back as one of the black and white figures tried to poke at him with a bayonet.

"I'll go with avatar," she growled. "One of these days you're going to tell me why you started selling rifles to penguins though."
