So I started converting my stories to be sold on Amazon since Smashwords finally admitted they won't have a proper sales agreement with them for perhaps a year. So far the results have been promising.

Good Landing

Date Posted: 08/03/11
Sales: 1746 (Free ebook)
Profit: $0.70
Notes: I originally posted this for $0.99, but it was reduced to free when Amazon noticed that it was free on Smashwords. So no profit but good recognition at least, earning it three positive reviews, Two 5-star and one 4-star.

Captive of the Red Vixen

Date Posted: 08/05/11
Sales: Six
Profit: $5.28
Notes: Second best selling book after Unexpected Diversions, even before I put up Cheeko's new cover.

Demon Eyes

Date Posted: 08/06/11
Sales: None
Profit: None
Notes: My major disappointment. Despite the professional looking cover and low price, there haven't been any takers. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why.

The Dragon's Companion

Date Posted: 08/09/11
Sales: Three
Profit: $5.28
Notes: Modest sales so far, but they're matched by the sales of the individual stories that make up the collection.

Unexpected Diversions

Date Posted: 08/11/11
Sales: Seven
Profit: $7.25
Notes: My best selling for profit book. Elfporn always wins. :) I am mildly frustrated by the lack of reviews though.

Teal's Bargain, Teal's War, Teal's Choice.

Date Posted: 08/24/11
Sales: Five
Profit: $1.75
Notes: All of these are actually selling better than I expected, given they can be bought together for a cheaper price in the Dragon's Companion omnibus. I think this confirms the general opinion that anything priced lower than a dollar encourages impulse buying.

Meanwhile Smashwords sales during the same period have been more modest, just five sales totaling a bit less than ten dollars. I believe moving my books to Amazon ahead of whatever agreement can be worked between them and Smashwords was a good move.

The Future: I'm still waiting on Wazzy's new cover before posting Prisoners of War. It should be interesting to see how it sells, since it's going to be hard erotica compared to Unexpected Diversions' softer touch. Also waiting in the wings is Triumvirate which is undergoing beta reading and also needs a cover. For that one I'm probably going to ask Meg for an abstract triskelion image which should look good and be relatively cheap to commission.

Problems: I need to figure out how to set up my own author bio page on Amazon like [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar's example. For life of me I can't find the correct FAQ on Amazon's KDP site. Also I need to find a polite way to get Wazzy to finish POW's cover without seeming pushy.

For NaNoWriMo this year I'm probably going to do a big push on Warbird. Prior to that I'm going to try and concentrate on short stories, like The Volunteer and perhaps a brief fluffy sequel to CotRV if I can find a plot bunny that appeals to me. Post Christmas I'm going to see if I can't put out at least one original story a month to keep my presence visible on Amazon.
