Fic: Promises Broken

Based off some discussions with
chaypeta about the future plot of her Terinu comic.
"Tell me I did the right thing," Leeza said, her voice weary.
"You did a right thing, to quote the Wise Lady," Rufus answered, after a moment's consideration. "I'll confess I don't know what else you could have done."
"Terinu hates me now," she said.
"Yes," he replied, his own voice flat, not condemning, but not denying it either.
Leeza rubbed her eyes hard with the palms of her hands. She looked over to him, the rims red now. "Do you think he'll ever forgive me? I could see it all falling apart, right there in that room. I had to do something, something to keep it together."
"You promised never to betray him," Rufus said.
"It was either betray him… or everyone."
"That's true enough." Rufus rested his chin on his paw, staring back at her. "When he's older, when he sees that the world is painted in a hundred shades of grey instead of black and white, he might forgive you."
"You think so?"
"Perhaps. But he won't ever forget."
