I made the mistake of picking up his short story collection. "On the Uses of Torture" had me mentally flinching for years afterwards whenever something reminded me of it.

Is he really that bad? I read some of the Xanth books and I have to admit the puns are a bit... overdone, but is that a reason to declare him sick?

The problem with Piers Anthony is that he starts series well, and then drags them out with no discernible interest except the puns and the royalties.
