How cheap is the company I work for?

Aside from "temping" for the past five years with no pay raise, this week they decided to remove the coffee maker, since they won't be providing free coffee to the office anymore.

I don't even flipping drink coffee and I'm pissed off about this. We have less than twenty people in the office, how much can it possibly cost them?!

If your employer was in the UK, this could be because HMRC classify office beverages as a taxable benefit-in-kind. (At which point all sorts of income tax whackiness applies.) However, I don't think you're British. So. Have the IRS been changing their tax regs ...?

Honestly, I think you're assigning a bit too much logic to this than my company deserves. "Penny pinching" doesn't even begin to describe them. And if it was a change in the tax code it would make more sense to do it at the beginning January anyway.

They're not going to provide the coffee free, so they're yanking the machine? Would I be correct in guessing there's probably a policy against people bringing and plugging in their own machine?
