Trying, somewhat desperately I'll admit, to get my writing mojo back. We'll see if I can actually do forty days. Suggestions for subjects are welcome.

We'll start with one I came up with after reading a review of a Fafnir and the Grey Mouser collection.

* * *

Maria swatted the ice with her mallet. It cracked and fell away from the boat's railing, falling into the cold black southern sea. Their captured vessel lurched in the rolling water, a wave breaking over the bow, putting the lie to her efforts. It wouldn't be long before enough ice formed to capsize them, and that would be it for their escape.

Tez emerged, finally, from the cargo hold, looking bemused.

"Is this thing going to stay afloat?" she asked testily.

"Well, there is a hole in the bottom," he said calmly.

Maria dropped her mallet. It slid over the icy deck and over the side, falling into the sea. "So, we're going to die. Sorry, I'm going to die."

"We'll both survive," he said confidently. "Come and see."

She followed him below deck, nearly braining herself on a beam as their boat lurched again, crawling among the supplies to a small hatch set in the middle of the floor. "That's an odd thing to put in a boat," she noted.

"Yes, it caught my attention too." Tez unlatched it, throwing it open. Maria took in a deep breath as a golden glow emerged from the hatch and the dank, salty air of the hold was replaced with the smell of... wildflowers?

She leaned over to see. Through the hatch she could see blue sky. Drawn to its warmth, she leaned over and pushed her head and shoulders through, to find them sticking out of a hole in the ground. Green grass surrounded her, and series of stone plinths circled the hatch about ten feet away. Maria pulled back, staring at Tez wide-eyed. "Have you ever seen anything like this?" she demanded.

"No, I haven't," he replied, a genuine smile on his face. "Why don't we explore?"

Yay, more Tez & Maria! XD

(Er, that wasn't a *suggestion*, unless you want it to be...)

You know, I'd kinda like to join you in this project, only I'd rather build by stash of flash to post on Fridays... Would you be interested in getting a private copy of what I write, as sort of an incentive because you're not writing alone? (No hard feelings if you aren't.)

This is great!

I found you via your 20 Roads Cazaril Didn't Take series and have been lurking ever since. However, I'd really like to join you in this 40 days of omg get writing NOW thing (I have to get back into the habit or I'll be that most banal of things, someone who 'used to write'. Ugh).

So I'll be friending you, if that's okay.

Hi. Nice to meet you. I'm Stasia.
