Agree completely with all your points, but there is the fact that Obama did win by less than 3 million in the popular vote, so some of that overwhelming victory is due to the borked nature of the electoral college.
He still won, of course, and 2.5 million people isn't as tiny a margin as it looked like it would be for a span of time, but quite a few people still did support Romney despite your points.
