Car Wars: This fills me with some dre... trepidation.

Over at Steve Jackson Games they've opened up the discussion board for the upcoming Kickstarter edition of Car Wars (membership limited to participants in the Ogre Designer's Edition Kickstater campaign). So far it's been going very politely as people chat about what changes need to be made to the system to bring it into the real 21st century.

Then the head of the project, Phil Reed, casually mentioned he wants to use The Windup Girl as a worldbuilding influence. Facepalm.

It was going so well, too...

Did he say how much of the game will center around raping sex slaves? Because that's a good chunk of TWG.

As I recall, Car Wars always had a wacked-out back-story.

His primary concern seems to be getting rid of the goofier elements of the backstory, yes. Frankly, I want the goofier aspects to stay put (if updated to 21st century goofiness). The actual background of famine, limited nuclear war and marauding cycle gangs is grim enough without trying to make it more "realistic" ie: Hopeless.

Well judging from the first couple of comments I read before I had to go to work he was about to be dogpiled, so hopefully he'll rethink this idea.

I think I'm going to stick with the Ogre discussions. I have all the flames I deal with complaining about overpowered SHVYs.
