For Hellhound: "You can't keep that as a pet."

* * *

"Dearheart, you can't keep her."

"But Mother, she followed me home."

"'Followed?'"

"Well, I found her anyway. They'd left her there and she was all cold and alone."

"Dearheart, she belongs with her own kind. If she stays with us too long they won't take her back. Tomorrow we'll return her."

"Can we at least keep her overnight?"

"Sigh. Yes, dear."

She mantled her wings as her son scampered off, leaning down close to his new found pet, careful to keep the fire in her throat banked. "Don't worry, dear. My son is too young to be taking princesses yet."

Is she actually a princess?

Well, y'know. Tied up alone in a remote place usually means "Princess", but it's hard to tell one human from another.

"Usually" doesn't help to exclude, say, non-royal victims of nefarious persons.

Mind you, "I was saved from the evil machinations of Prince Roberto by a handsome young dragon," does have a certain something to it.

"Mooooom! She came back! Can I keep her this time?"

Teenagers will be teenagers. Next you know he'll refuse to tidy up his hoard, start collecting iron instead of gold, and keep bringing back those /awful/ new-style bards and their atrociously loud music...

If you still need drabble inspirations, I don't think this one came by yet:

"... Well, that didn't go as planned"

Heh, I've still got about a dozen or so to go through, but I'll add that to the list.

That's extremely clever.

Now that you've brought it up, does anyone know of any other dragon/princess stories told from the dragon's POV?

Well, The Dragon's Companion at least has some bits from the dragon's POV, but that's mostly to show the massive Fail in his and Teal's relationship. :)

I'm sure somebody must written something. Was there anything from the dragons' pov in Pat Wrede's Enchanted Forest books?

The Enchanted Forest books were my first thought, too, but no, apparently not.
