For [livejournal.com profile] drhoz: "Bacteriophages"

I think the good doctor is attempting to broaden my education.

"So, what's in it?" Peter asked. Above them, the arc of the Ring curved around Earth, as they sat on the shores of Lake Gottaputsomethinghere.

The Groupmind had gotten a little desperate when it came to identifying landscape features, everyone had agreed.

"Bacteriophages," Jill answered.

"That sounds ominous."

"Not really. Lost Earth Russians used them as a substitute for antibiotics, and they were also used for large scale fermentation projects. The ones in the lake are of the latter variety."

Peter stood up, looking over the lake's amber surface. "So that's…?"

"The biggest beer vat you're ever going to see."

Be warned, Jill didn't say it was good</> beer. ;p I suspect many features on the Ring's surface were a result of the Groupmind asking pre-Processed humans "What would be the coolest natural sight you'd ever want to see?"

A very good point. I suspect it's going to be a very popular SPring Break Destination.

Pauses in thought, then makes note to try and figure out if there's actual weather in the Ring.

If you have large bodies of liquid, atmosphere, gravity plus warming and cooling effects from the sun, I think the answer will be, "Yes."
