MCU: Flamebaity fanfic idea

Premise: Random Reporter asks Steve Rogers "What's your opinion on abortion?" Hilarity culture shock ensues.

One can assume Steve got a thick FAQ and orientation classes along the lines "Your Handy Guide to the 21st Century", but he couldn't possibly be prepared for everything. OTOH if his SHIELD handlers had an ounce of sense, they'd have advised him to have an answer for that question, not to mention a plan for when every tea party and other right wing group in the country tries to co-opt his patriotism into their vision of how America should be.

Personally, I think he'd take a fallback position on the first question along the lines of "Not being a woman, I can't answer that." I can't imagine he'd have a very high opinion of the heirs of Father Conklin either.

Anyway, its way too political for me to write it.

   Abortion was not invented after WWII. Opinions on it varied widely then (as they do now), and the legality and availability varied widely as well (clichés about back alleys notwithstanding). My grandmother (when she was pregnant with my mother, in 1934) was strongly urged by her doctor to have an abortion, because of the chance that she (the grandmother) might not survive the delivery. She chose not to have one (obviously, or I wouldn't be here) and did survive delivery (though not without complications), but the point is that the choice was there. There's no reason to assume that Steve Rogers didn't already have an opinion on the matter before he became a Capsicle, and did not require a 21st century briefing packet.

   That being said, it's still flame bait no matter how Steve's answer is written. He is a straight-shooter, though; so I don't see him being coy and giving a non-answer. Whichever way he feels, I'd expect him to come right out and say so. (I wouldn't write it either.)

And don't forget that his mom was a nurse too. While it may not have been a subject for dinner table conversation, he would have had a bit more knowledge than most average folk in his time.

I'd add a counterpoint that while abortion, legal or not, has been around forever, men wouldn't necessarily know or think about it, especially young men. I know I was unaware of such things at the late teen-early 20s range that Steve was when he became Captain America, and I was of course born quite some years later than the good Captain.
