Eh. Hard labour's a waste of her abilities. It's a punishment you give to people that aren't capable of anything more useful or can't be trusted with anything more sensitive. Especially in a society where robotics likely handle the vast majority of the heavy lifting anyway.
Why is "Convicted, multiple counts of 20yrs each, to be served concurrently, eligible for parole in 10yrs; recommend to mental health services" not on the list?
That and I didn't want Ali to be thrown into a prison cell at the end of the story, even if it was with the possibility of eventually getting out. Would have been a bit of a bummer. And poor Lu's family would have never have spoken to him again...
