FYS: Waking Up
Apr. 10th, 2015 05:27 amAfter talking to several psychologists and some experimentation early into the revival cycle, the Groupmind managed to set a standard pattern for waking up its human charges once the Ring was completed and ready for occupation.
First, it lets the hair grow out a bit. This involved moving its subjects from nanostasis to a medical coma for several days, but apparently Waking Up Bald was a big deal. (Insert computer equivalent to a shrug here).
Whenever possible, have family units wake up in the same chamber facing each other. If the wakee has no family, they're generally revived with their friends. This spares the Groupmind, who while infinitely patient doesn't see the need to do something over and over again if it doesn't have to, the necessity of responding to people's demands of where various other people are. Though in 50% of the cases it has to anyway, usually followed by a painful explanation of What Happened to Grandma....
Speaking of the revival chamber, there are several key architectural points to it. It's a large open space filled with a number of comfortable lounge chairs (as opposed to hospital beds) which the wakees are placed before the antagonists to the sedatives are administered. The chamber has both a large, open window and an open door to the outside, to avoid making the wakees feel trapped. Medical morphs withdraw before the awakened is completed, staying out of sight, but monitoring remotely. Everyone is already dressed in white shirts, skirts or pants, depending on previously noted cultural preferences.
After everyone wakes up and greets each other, there's almost inevitably a rush outside. Followed by a 100% reaction of shock as everyone looks up and sees the Roof and the Earth hanging above it.
Then things start getting complicated....
