AKICIF: Swedish Language Query
Apr. 15th, 2015 07:56 amThis one is mostly for
mehhayperson.
So would would be a good Swedish term for an Anthromorph cop? Something along the lines of Robot Cop or Antrhopolice I imagine. Or something else if you think it would make more sense culturally.
I'm imagining with the relatively low violence levels in the EU compared to the USA, anthromorph police units would actually be less common. In the US they'd be a godsend for SWAT team units, or Armed Response in the UK, but they're less useful for community policing policies.

Date: 2015-04-15 04:01 pm (UTC)Most of my reading I do in English, so I haven't really stumbled upon the terms that a lot of sci-fi uses in Swedish. That being said, I do think you're pretty much on the right track - antropolis (ahnn-trå-på-LEES) would be a good combination word, or possibly something like polismorf (på-LEES-morrf). I actually prefer the second, because I keep wanting to say "anTHro", but Swedish doesn't have the TH sound, but then "antro" sounds WEIRD to my ears. Polismorf is also shorter, which I think we'd like.
It's also possible that we'd create a new slang word just for the anthro cops, which is what a regular person would use in non-official times. I'm having trouble thinking of a good slang word for it - these things tend to happen randomly, anyway, but if you'd like to try to figure one out, I'll see what I can think of.
(Robotsnut? Maybe something using "android" .... or just "auto". HMMM)
On a social level, I could still easily see them being used for forest fires and in our armed forces, especially in the northern-based military service, which gets the fewest amount of volunteers (it's pretty rough, with a lot of forest ....stuff... and snow survival skills being taught). I would also imagine that they'd be good guards, when a personal touch is needed. As for a general police-officer-on-the-beat...? I'm not sure either way, to be honest. It's true that Sweden is less violent than other countries, and that our police force doesn't carry firearms. A morph would still be excellent at chasing people, and applying appropriate levels of force, and be good at aiming pepper spray / not be vulnerable to pepper spray. So I still think they'd be in SOME use in the general police force.
Also, they'd be cheaper, wouldn't they? No need to pay them.
(I doubt our coastguard would need them, they do pretty well, unless they need more people/bodies to actually do their patrols. Now I'm gonna be thinking about this all day.)
Hope this was helpful! I tried.

Date: 2015-04-15 06:40 pm (UTC)"Robosnut" is a bit too close to "Robosmut" I think. Though I'll admit I'm going to be using it in a story about Anna Quisling.... ;p
Thanks!
