Sales Report for 2017

Sales
1) Despite my worries about a lack of book specific cover art, The Complete Red Vixen Adventures sold well, comprising a little under half my total royalties for the year, with royalties from the ebook and print on demand editions working out about equally, despite the PoD edition being four times as expensive.
2) Surprisingly Captive of the Red Vixen, despite being several years old at this point, was my top seller. My only conclusion is that those drawn to my Furry writings start the series there, and if it doesn’t grab them they stop, since from there the novellas becoming increasingly intertwined.
3) In comparison, sales of the final ebook in the series, The Red Vixen at Sea, were somewhat mediocre. Not horrible, but not what I was hoping for either. I still want to get decent cover art for it and see if that gives it a boost.
4) The Fall of Man sold relatively well for something not associated with the Red Vixen Adventures. I suspect readers who liked the original For Your Safety short story got it for a little extra bite.
5) Sales of my fantasy works, including Demon Eyes, The Dragon’s Companion, and Unexpected Diversions were either miniscule or non-existent. I guess I’ve got a better rep as a Furry Sci-Fi author than a fantasy author.
Things to Do For 2018:
1) Cover Art: I still want to get something for CRVA and RVaS. Ideally I also want to get interior illustrations for a Deluxe Edition of CRVA. With the Patreon doing well so far, that might actually happen.
2) Self-Publish More: “Publish or Perish” doesn’t just apply academia. The best way for me to boost my overall sales is produce More Stuff. Though the RVA series is done, I’ve got two more long form stories I definitely want to tell, a sequel to Prisoners of War and non-erotic book with the same main character that’s going to be a homage to Alan Dean Foster’s classic first contact novel Nor Crystal Tears. I also want to see if I can publish more short works. Novellas are my forte, but they frankly take too long to produce. My best bet might be some self-contained For Your Safety shorts set in the Ring period, which I can hopefully put together as another collection to complement The Fall of Man.
3) Pro-Publish More: Thanks to the encouragement and support of Tarl Hoch at Armoured Fox Press, I’ve got one short story up for publication, one more under consideration for another of his anthologies, and another submitted to another small press publisher. If I can get them all out there for readers to see, I’ll want to continue the trend and produce more works where at least the burden of self-promotion is out of my hands.
4) Support my Patreon: Thanks one particularly generous donor, I’ll be getting about $60 a month of Patreon support for 2018. If that doesn’t sound like much, it’s still going to total more than three times what I made from my book sales for all of last year. I owe my supporters a minimum amount of content for their generosity, and hopefully that pressure will make me produce more both for my Patrons and general readers.
In Conclusion: This wasn’t my best sales year, but far from my worst either. If I can produce more work, I hope I can significantly boost sales instead of just puttering along.
