We sent in a check for $2400 to Great Wall to get the ball rolling for China Girl. Still doesn't seem real somehow though.

When it does, I'll probably start stress puking, so that's probably for the best.

I take it this means you'll start assembling a dossier on yourselves, next? Birth certificates, marriage certificates, 3 years prior income tax returns, credit history, criminal background checks, security clearances, proctologist's report, dental records, pyschiatic evaluation, vaccination records, home study to include architect's renderings of the proposed housing, daycare provisions, parenting philosophy, religious background, sexual orientation, tastes in food, music, and the all important question regarding radon levels; all notarized, validated by Maryland, confirmed by the US Department of State, seconded by the Chinese Embassy ... Then there's the immmigration procedure for orphans.

Oooh boy. (I'm exaggerating for humorous effect, of course. )

Have fun, good luck, and make get extra "originals" of anything you can, just in case.

You aren't exaggerating by much I'll admit. :) Downside, we are doing our own paperwork hunt, just because we can't afford to drop $1,600 to Great Wall to do it for us. On the plus side, I can FedEx stuff at a nice discount from my workplace, and everything that has to be notarized can be done gratis courtesy of my aunt who works in the county courthouse. :)

I shared the good news with MrsP. She tracks the message boards on the adoption sub-culture. Great Wall is turning paperwork MUCH faster nowadays than in my own experience. You'd better get your Hep-B vaccinations NOW. It takes about three rounds of shots to get started and several months to develop the antibodies. Then you probably will want a blood titer test to be sure the expected antibodies are in the bodies where you want them. If not, may yet be time for a booster.

The prevalance of Hepatitis among travelers to China and Chinese orphans is low, but this is a precaution easily taken, if time consuming.

Doing your own paperwork is actually rather fun.
